Overview

The simulation centre is located in the third floor of college building with total area of 872sq.m.The simulation centre encompasses a wide range of facilities to teach and train both undergraduate and post graduate students. This centre is designed not only to meet the needs of students but also has facilities to conduct live workshops and conferences. The centre can also be used for conducting OSCE exams for students. The simulation ICU and operation theatre are designed to train postgraduates in various competencies. The rooms are fully equipped with hospital beds, exam tables, monitors, IV poles, defibrillators, blood pressure cuffs, simulated oxygen ports and all equipments & supplies required to respond to medical and nursing interventions, including emergencies. The centre offers simulated experiential learning via task training & high fidelity scenarios using patient manikins & trained medical actors.

Overview:

The Simulation Centre at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital (SMVMCH) successfully conducted the American Heart Association (AHA) – HeartCode BLS Course from February 10 to 23, 2026. The course was organized for CRMI (2020 Batch) interns with the objective of enhancing their competence in emergency cardiovascular care, strictly aligned with AHA guidelines.

The sessions covered critical components of Basic Life Support and emergency response, including:

Participants received hands-on, simulation-based training and were assessed for both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Certification reports were successfully submitted to AHA for processing.

Multiple sessions, identical in structure and content, were conducted to accommodate all participants. Each session emphasized life-saving protocols, practical skill development, and real-time simulation drills. Participants actively engaged in training exercises and evaluations throughout the program.

Conclusion:

The AHA – HeartCode BLS Course at SMVMCH concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from CRMI interns. The program significantly enhanced emergency response preparedness, clinical skills, and confidence in managing cardiac emergencies.
Participants provided positive feedback, appreciating the quality of instruction, practical relevance, and the effectiveness of simulation-based learning in improving real-world clinical performance.

Overview:

The Manakula Academy of Simulations conducted the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Renewal Training Program for MD/MS postgraduate students. The sessions, held over two weeks at the Simulation Centre of SMVMCH, aimed to refresh, evaluate, and certify participants in accordance with AHA BLS standards.

Objectives of the Program

  • To update participants on the latest AHA BLS 2025 guidelines.
  • To reinforce high-quality CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants.
  • To strengthen skills in airway management, rescue breathing, and AED operation.
  • To evaluate and certify participants for BLS Renewal as per AHA competency criteria.
  • To enhance communication and teamwork during cardiac emergencies.

Participation

A total of 100 MD/MS Postgraduate Students participated in the training. Delegates were divided into small groups to ensure optimal practice time and instructor–learner interaction.

Certified AHA BLS Instructors and simulation faculty from the Manakula Academy of Simulations led the sessions, ensuring adherence to AHA training standards and high-quality skill assessment.

Conclusion:

Overview:

The Manakula Academy of Simulations, under the auspices of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital (SMVMCH), successfully conducted the AHA BLS & ACLS Instructor Course at the Simulation Centre, Puducherry.

The course was designed for faculty members who had previously completed the AHA Provider Courses and demonstrated strong aptitude in emergency resuscitation. This Instructor Course was conducted in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines to prepare participants to teach and certify future AHA BLS and ACLS providers.

All instructor candidates who successfully completed the course have now been certified as AHA BLS and/or ACLS Instructors, thereby qualifying them to independently conduct AHA-certified courses under an authorized Training Center.

This marks a significant step in expanding the in-house training capacity of the Simulation Centre at SMVMCH, ensuring the sustainability of AHA courses for both students and healthcare professionals in the future.

The AHA BLS & ACLS Instructor Course was a resounding success, with active participation, high levels of engagement, and positive feedback from the candidates. AHA Instructor Course

To enhance the capacity of our Simulation Centre and ensure the smooth conduct of future AHA courses, we are planning to organize an AHA Instructor Course next month. This initiative aims to train more faculty members as certified Simulation Instructors.

Conclusion:

The AHA-BLS & ACLS Provider Course was successfully conducted, with active participation and positive feedback from both Faculty and Postgraduates. The training sessions provided a critical platform for enhancing life-saving skills and preparedness for emergency response.

Event Summary

The Indian Academy of Paediatrics along with Department of Paediatrics, SMVMCH, jointly organised the IAP – First Golden Minute neonate resuscitation workshop on 29.07.2025 in the skill lab of SMVMCH. The key instructors of the programme are

The programme was inaugurated by Dr.K.Soundariya Deputy Dean Academic (UG) of SMVMCH. The programme was facilitated by Dr.T.Bharath Kumar, HOD of the Department of Paediatrics, and Associate and Assistant Professors of the Department also attended the inaugural function.

42 Delegates participated in the workshop which included postgraduate students from the department of Paediatrics around various colleges, and nursing staff of NICU.

The programme started at 08.30 am and completed by 4.30 pm. The program comprised both theoretical and hands-on training components. The day began with introductory lectures covering core principles of neonatal resuscitation, including the initial steps of newborn care, positive pressure ventilation, endotracheal intubation, chest compressions, and the administration of medications during resuscitation. This was followed by skill stations, simulation-based training, and performance evaluation, where each participant had the opportunity to practice and demonstrate resuscitation techniques on neonatal mannequins under expert supervision.

The interactive nature of the sessions and the real-time feedback provided by instructors greatly contributed to the learning experience. Emphasis was placed on team dynamics, timely decision-making, and adherence to protocols in high-stress situations.

At the conclusion of the course, a formal assessment was conducted, signifying their competence in neonatal resuscitation practices.

Brief Summary of the Session:

The Nursing Skill Training Program for 3rd Year BSc Nursing Students was designed to enhance participants’ competencies in Medical and Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, and Child Health Nursing.
